3 Goals of Marketing

To increase business from existing customers.

Ask yourself

Which goal do you want to achieve?
Does the message suit the goal?
What response do you want from the customer?
Is there an action you want them to take?
Who is the message addressed to?
Is it an existing or a new customer?

Based on the above conclusion, you can now formulate your message.

Importance of content

A single message is limited to only 160 characters.
 It must be clear, concise and to the point
It must include contact information
It must be understood, remembered and acted upon.

Rules of SMS 

Don't SPAM - i.e. send unsolicited or unwanted messages.
You need permission or the customer must want the message.
Offer value or incentives e.g. vouchers/ coupons
Customise the message according to location e.g. JHB /CTN/NY/LON and the time zone
Personalise according to Name, Surname, Title, etc. The same message can be sent to many clients, each message will have the clients own name in it e.g. Joe/Sue
Track customer habits to personalise the message - e.g. which nights they go out to eat.
Track responses to measure campaign effect - e.g. vouchers/ coupons
Reward responses with more incentives.
Build a long term relationship by respecting privacy. i.e. don't send too many messages
Have a facility for clients to opt out.
